A Functional Integration® lesson is in its setting similar to a treatment as I will see you in my private practice and will touch and move you. However, we still think of it as a learning process. Together we will discuss and explore what you would like to improve and do more easily in your life. We will then observe how you move in standing or sitting before you lie on my Feldenkrais table and I will begin to touch and move you according to your request. As you focus on your experience of the movements we explore, you will slowly become more aware of how you habitually move, breathe and hold yourself and will be able to discover new ways and possibilities. It is our ability to distinguish, to notice differences that gives us choices and opens the door to improvement.
At the end of the lesson we will come back to the movements we observed in sitting or standing and notice what improved and how you could use this in your daily life.
Individual Feldenkrais lessons are an intriguing way to get to know yourself better, the way you are and do things, and they support your personal development and self-regulation. They also provide a safe environment where you can learn to move with less pain and improve your mobility, possibly after an injury or operation, or just because of the demands of life. Lessons further help to reduce stress and anxiety which often leads to better sleep and mood.
Some people use individual Feldenkrais lessons to enhance their performance in dance, music or athletics. Others might look for support in coping with a neurological condition.
Somatic learning, creating new neural pathways in the brain, takes time and I usually suggest booking in for a series of lessons so that the newly formed patterns can embed themselves and be absorbed into your life. Some people like to later join a group class or workshop or combine attending classes and seeing me individually on occasion.

"I am 60 years old with a number of what I presumed were age-related pains. I have had four individual lessons with Sabine so far and my chronic shoulder and wrist pain is much reduced as is my back pain. I also find the lessons a very calming and relaxing experience. Recently I have also started to attend online group classes with Sabine."

"I have been having 1-1 lessons with Sabine for over five years. I initially went for a chronic issue with my hip and lower back which I had been in pain with for several months. Within a few sessions, this had been resolved and I was pain free. However, the sessions with her are so much more than simply dealing with pain in a certain part of my body. Her expertise, thoughtful approach and way of using the Feldenkrais method also have an impact on my nervous system and emotional wellbeing, which in turn benefits how I feel physically. The lessons translate easily into my everyday life, helping me to move more easily, sleep better and feel more grounded and playful. Sabine is kind and creates a warm and calm atmosphere which makes it easy to trust her and the work she is doing. I look forward to my sessions with her and always feel better afterwards. I have recommended her to a couple of people who have also loved working with her and have benefited from their sessions."
