Group Movement Classes

Awareness Through Movement Group Classes®

Awareness through movement® classes use sensory-motor learning to improve the way we move, think and feel in life. Lessons take place lying on a mat on the floor, sometimes also in sitting or standing. I will guide you verbally through a sequence of movements with a different movement theme each week. The movements we explore all relate to what we do in everyday life such as turning, bending, reaching, sitting, walking, breathing etc. and are designed to make these activities easier.

As you pay attention to how the movements feel, for example where they feel smooth and easy or where you may try too hard, move too quickly or use too much effort, you will gain a clearer sense of how you organise yourself and will be able to adjust to more comfortable ways of being, moving, breathing and holding yourself.

Group classes are a nice way to connect to yourself and to bring your attention more to your inner world and sensations. This in itself has a calming effect and students often say that they feel more at ease in themselves and sleep better after a class. Students also report that they can think more clearly and relate more openly to themselves and others. We can transfer the discoveries we make in a class into our daily life, improving the way we do whatever we are involved in.

What my students say...

"I have been attending Sabine's Feldenkrais lessons for many years. I find them truly educational,  inspiring and hard to put into words. It has something to do with the depth of the method itself, combined with the incredible way the lessons are taught. Coming to the classes is like a weekly dose of being in touch with the simple but ever fascinating fact of being human with a body and mind, and somehow just examining, exploring, and enjoying this. After each class I feel better, I have more energy, feel less tired, feel more grounded and often feel lighter in mood. I would describe Sabine's teaching as a wonderful mix of clarity, calmness, unpretentiousness, professionalism, groundedness and ease."

- Jo C, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

"I started going to Sabine’s Feldenkrais classes because I was experiencing chronic lower back pain to such an extent that I was sometimes unable to move. I work as a tour guide, sitting in the most uncomfortable place, the jump seat beside the driver, on tour buses for days on end. I’ve been doing this every summer for over thirty years. I began attending Sabine’s classes several years ago. They have made such a difference. I am able to move more freely. My back is giving me far less grief and my general wellbeing is noticeably improved. Sabine is an excellent teacher, as well as being very clear with her directions she also has the most soothing voice and is very good at relating what you are doing in particular to the greater scheme of things. The loveliest moments are when you discover how to make a movement with ease. Thanks Sabine, I hope many more people learn to discover the benefits of this understated and underrated method."
